Gap Course Programme

Although we offer two courses, both follow the same 9 week programme as set out below:

Week 1

Welcome Drinks on Arrival

On your evening of arrival you'll have a chance to meet fellow students and the training team for a beer or drop of vino in town.

Personal Performance Skiing Course

A five day course designed to prepare the student for the following week's BASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor course. The week is a great chance to find your feet, meet the team and your course-mates, orientate yourself around resort and develop your skiing without any pressure. It includes an introduction to BASI's Central Theme and the fundamental elements, plus you’ll also cover piste performance, steeps, bumps and off -piste during this week.

Week 2

BASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor Course

This is a 5 day training and assessment course in which the following subjects are covered and assessed:

Together with your first aid course and fi rst 35 hours of snowsport school experience, this course qualifies you to teach snowsports on artificial or indoor slopes in the UK.

Weeks 3 - 7

Performance Training

Students receive six hours of technical performance training from Interski’s top instructors. The sessions are designed to improve students' technical performance and maximise their potential, whether up to Level 2 standard or beyond. Our trainers will develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to understand your own skiing, through a combination of indivdual, reciprocal and group excercises. They will include training within the technical, tactical, physical and psychological performance threads.

Teaching Clinics

At Interski we don't just want you to become better skiers - we want you to become great ski-teachers! In addition to personal performance training we include an additional weekly two-hour teaching clinic to gain additional experience delivering and reviewing lessons. We have a vested interest in your success and the quality of your lessons - we want you to work for us!

Snowsport School Experience

You will shadow lessons alonside Interski's own instructors. Over the five weeks you will have the opportunity to get involved with lessons delivered at a variety of levels. Seventy hours of snowsport school experience are required before sitting the Level 2 course, which equates to around 14 hours shadowing each week. Students keep a record of their experience from which to draw ideas for future lesson plans.

First Aid Course

A two-day first-aid course will be held in resort and runs over a weekend. It is run by Nigel Matthews, a British First Aid expert and highly respected Snowsport England tutor. This course is of value to all those working with people in an outdoor environment. It is a pre-requisite of any BASI qualification and is also HSE recognised.

Safeguarding Children Course

The Safeguarding Children Module is an online course. This module can now be done in your own time and in the comfort of your hotel or our office.

Equipment Advice

An optional drop-in session for advice on purchasing ski equipment is off ered in the week following your Level 1 course. If you are looking to buy before the course please don’t hesitate to call us for advice and special offers.

Ski Maintenance Session

Your Gap Year trainer or Interski's ski technician will take you step-by-step through the process of professional ski preparation. He will explain what facilities and equipment are on off er in the workshop and what tools and consumables you may wish to obtain to keep your skis in tip-top condition.

Snowsports Futures Seminar

An evening with our Resorts Management Team, providing advice on opportunities within the industry in ski teaching, resort work and further snowsports instructor training.

Weeks 8 - 9

BASI Alpine Level 2 Instructor Course

A ten day continual training and assessment course, led by a BASI Trainer. Successful students will be able to ski to the required level, have the knowledge, ability and understanding to safely teach alpine skiing on a marked, patrolled area. Course content covers the following areas:

End of Course Meal and Party

We even contribute to the celebratory meal at the end of your course! Dinner (usually at the Bambu Chinese) is followed by a party at the Gekoo Bar with the resort team and instructors.
