Whilst we do not specify a minimum ability level for the course, BASI recommend ten weeks skiing experience before attending an Alpine Level 1 Instructors course. They specify students must:
If in doubt, please call us for advice. We may request you attend a free Gap Taster Session at a slope in the UK prior to your course. This will give us the chance to ensure your skiing is at the required level and provide you with the opportunity to meet some of the Interski trainers.
We want you to hit the ground running on your course. Once you've booked you'll be issued with a host of pre-course information designed to prepare you for moving to resort and outlining the details of your nine weeks in the Aosta Valley. On top of that, should you have any queries or concerns, you can email call or email our trainers directly. We'll even give you the chance to meet them at a UK snowsports centre during the summer/autumn.
A requirement of holding a BASI licence is that you have a basic Criminal Record Disclosure. These are normally issued by Disclosure Scotland and need to be applied for before you start your course in order to allow you to start work upon qualification. The cost of your disclosure will be covered in the cost of your course.
If you want to buy your own ski equipment before coming to resort, we've teamed up with Atomic to offer you unbeatable discounts on the latest kit. Our trainers are on hand for advice and can point you in the right direction for which skis and boots are right for you.
And if you don't have your own equipment and aren't in a position to buy yet, don't worry. Hire of Atomic equipment from our prestige range is included in the cost of the course.
On successful completion of all course modules, you'll finish the course with an internationally recognised qualification that allows you to teach skiing in a mountain environment. Whilst to teach in France you also need to hold the French Test Technique whilst progressing to Level 4, you can work elsewhere with a BASI Alpine Level 2 Ski Instructor qualification.
BASI qualifications are recognised throughout the world, including Europe, New Zealand and the Americas. This is where BASI qualifications have the edge over the American, Canadian and New Zealand qualifications which are not recognised in Europe.
As a BASI member you'll receive the BASI News four times a year and be entitled to discounts on equipment and clothing through their partners.
What better way to end your course and get your first foot in the industry door than by teaching for the company you trained with?! We guarantee, subject to satisfactory performance, a week's paid work teaching for the Interski Snowsport School. Not only that, but subject to availability, there may be the opportunity for up to a further three weeks work.
As the Interski Snowsport School is based in a region where BASI Level 2s can teach and requires instructors throughout the whole season, we are in a unique position to offer you work on the same mountain where you did your training. For details on the first-class remuneration package we offer instructors, and what we expect in return, take a look at the snowsport school website at www.interskisnowsportschool.co.uk
The Snowsports Futures Seminar (see previous pages) will provide you with all the ideas you need for where to go next. As the largest employer of BASI instructors, Interski has a vast network of industry contacts and can point you in exactly the right direction. We'll even supply you with professional references on request.
